When flow enters the secondary sedimentation tank, secondary sludge obtained during this step is combined with primary sludge for sludge processing. 80-90% of human waste and other solids are removed after this stage.In the tertiary stage of domestic wastewater treatment plant specific organic constituents, including phosphates, nitrates and ammonia are removed. Sometimes it will also be treated with a disinfection process using UV light, chlorination or ozone treatment to remove bacteria and viruses.
